Matt Werkmeister is certainly a well read actor.  Not only does he have his scripts to read for his role as Zeke Kinski on Neighbours, he has set himself a challenge to read 20 novels by August.

Matt Werkmeister is on the judging panel of the Inkys, which is Australia’s only teenage choice book award judged by young people under 20 years of age.  There are 20 books short-listed which are cut down to the final six.  The aim of the award is to encourage teenagers to read.

“Finding the time is the difficult part but some of the books are great so the reading part has been fun,” Matt said.

A list of ten Australian and ten International books are selected by the Centre for Youth Literature, which are read by a panel of six judges, two of which are famous, who will cut the list down to just six books, three Australian and three International.

Once the longlist is chosen, it will be announced at the State Library of Victoria on 1 August and voting will open on 12 August.  The winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on 6 November.

The winning Australian book will receive the Golden Inky and a cash prize of $2000, and the International winner will receive the Silver Inky.

This year the Inky’s is also running a creative reading prize which can be won by YOU.  Go to http://www.insideadog.com.au/inkys/index.html for more information on the Teenage Choice Book Awards.
